What they're saying:
Testimonials from previous Sacred Kali Containers
“Imee is such a powerful guide. When I started working with Imee, I immediately felt more connected to my spirit team and ancestors. The way she teaches Kali as a spiritual practice is not only powerful, but necessary for our collective decolonization and healing. I have never experienced any type of martial art practice in which I feel so grounded, powerful and purposeful. Imee is thoughtful, patient, funny and encouraging. I truly recommend working with her and supporting this meaningful work.”
"As a teacher (Até) Imee is kind, patient, funny and informative. Working with her was rewarding - physically, emotionally and spiritually. She helped me to connect with myself, the Filipino community and my ancestors, in a new way. It was a life changing experience for me."
“Ate Imee's Sacred Kali teachings initiated profound spiritual connection to my Filipino roots. We embodied healing and celebrating our individual journeys, while bearing witness to collective empowerment. I learned so many beautiful ways to honor our heritage from our time together.”
“Ate Imee is a woman who has walked through fires of life and has come out the other side stronger for it. Through Sacred Kali, she reaches out to her kababayan in the diaspora and accompanies them on their journey of remembrance. Her containers are beautifully held with love, grace, and reverence. This is an experience that I highly recommend for those looking to meaningfully connect with their Filipinx heritage. As someone with prior Kali training, this course was both healing and engaging, and connected me with lifelong kapwa that I'm proud and grateful to have.”
Learning Kali with Imee has been an incredibly enriching experience. These classes offer a unique blend of physical exercise, historical education, and deep spiritual connection.
During the solar weeks, I learned basic Kali moves that my ancestors used to resist colonial forces, enriching my understanding of our shared history. The lunar weeks were dedicated to powerful visualizations and slow, mindful movements that fostered a deeper connection to my roots.
One of the most vivid moments for me was a visualization where I walked through an open-air space and met an ancestor who handed me my Kali sticks. I envisioned this ancestor with black, ashen skin, and felt a profound connection to my heritage. Another memorable visualization was meeting my ancestors on a distant shore, exchanging stories around a fire. These experiences profoundly changed me, allowing me to walk through our collective unconscious in a transformative way.
The sharing circles were equally powerful. Hearing the stories and lived experiences of fellow students, ranging from overcoming lifelong debt to reclaiming their bodies from violence, was incredibly moving. The space Imee created was unique, offering a rare opportunity for Filipinx healing circles that are not commonly found across the diaspora. It wasn’t just about trauma and grief; it was also about sharing creativity, projects, ideas, and dreams. This collective support and the thriving spirit of decolonization gave me immense hope for our journey together.
What makes these classes even more special is their Zoom environment, which helps connect people from all around the world. Being Filipino means being part of a widespread diaspora, and having the ability to join these sessions online has allowed us to bridge distances and build a global community. This virtual connection has been instrumental in fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose, despite the physical distances between us.
I wholeheartedly recommend Imee’s sacred kali classes to anyone looking to reconnect with their body, heritage, and community in a creative and supportive environment.
My lessons with Imee have been deeply heart opening. Learning to flow with my kali sticks connects me to my culture and ancestors, beyond language and knowledge. Our time together has helped me feel a sense of wholeness in my body and belonging in my blood that I have never felt before.
I am so grateful for Imee’s supportive guidance and her ability to create such an intimate container when half a world separates us. I heartily recommend Imee if you are also looking for an embodied connection to your roots 🤍
As I said to Imee, words can’t even begin to describe the portal that she helped me open because I’m still walking through it and will probably be moving through it for the rest of my life.
This movement practice, this ancestral movement practice, is like being on the phone to my ancestors. It is spiritual and physical, it is intimate and fun.
